Solar subsidy in Punjab, Himachal and J&K: how much you get and how to apply
The rooftop solar subsidy, explained simply. Under the PM Surya Ghar scheme (pmsuryaghar.gov.in), the Government of India pays a central subsidy of up to ₹78,000, or ₹85,800 in Himachal Pradesh and J&K, directly into your bank account when you install rooftop solar with DCR modules. We help with the paperwork; the subsidy application is filed by a vendor registered on the national portal.

The subsidy is credited directly to your bank account after commissioning. It is not a discount a vendor gives you, and no honest vendor "keeps" it. It needs DCR modules. Figures as of 2026; confirm current rates on pmsuryaghar.gov.in.
Who is eligible?
- You own a residential property with a roof you have rights to use.
- You have (or take) a grid electricity connection in your name.
- The system is grid-connected with net metering and uses DCR modules. The subsidy is for on-grid systems.
- Applications must go through the official National Portal, pmsuryaghar.gov.in.
How the process actually runs
- 1. Apply on the National Portal with your electricity connection details. We help you with this step.
- 2. Approval from your DISCOM: PSPCL in Punjab, CPDL in Chandigarh, UHBVN in Panchkula, HPSEBL in Himachal Pradesh, and JPDCL or KPDCL in J&K.
- 3. Installation by a registered vendor, with DCR modules, which the subsidy needs. We supply Adani DCR panels and BIS-certified SolarYaan inverters.
- 4. Net meter installation: your DISCOM fits the meter that credits your exports.
- 5. Inspection and commissioning certificate: generated through the portal.
- 6. Subsidy paid to your bank account after commissioning details are verified.

Subsidy by area
- Punjab (PSPCL): ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the 3rd, up to ₹78,000.
- Chandigarh (CPDL): the same central subsidy, up to ₹78,000. We supply the equipment and help with the documents.
- Panchkula (UHBVN): the same central subsidy, up to ₹78,000. We do rooftop work in Panchkula, supply the equipment and help with the documents.
- Himachal Pradesh (HPSEBL): a special-category state, so ₹33,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹19,800 for the 3rd, up to ₹85,800. We supply the equipment and help with the documents (see solar in Himachal).
- Jammu and Kashmir (JPDCL or KPDCL): also special category, so ₹33,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹19,800 for the 3rd, up to ₹85,800. We supply the equipment and help with the documents.

Frequently asked questions
Is the PM Surya Ghar subsidy really paid to me directly?
Yes. After your system is commissioned and verified, the subsidy is credited directly to your bank account by the government. A vendor who offers to 'adjust' the subsidy in the price is a red flag.
Can I get the subsidy for a 5 kW system?
Yes. The subsidy stops rising after 3 kW, so a 5 kW system gets the 3 kW amount: ₹78,000, or ₹85,800 in Himachal Pradesh and J&K.
Do I need to apply before buying the system?
Yes. Apply on the National Portal and get your DISCOM's approval before installation. Applying through the portal is what keeps you eligible for the subsidy. We can help you with the application.
How long does the subsidy take to arrive?
After your DISCOM verifies the commissioned system on the portal, you log in and redeem your e-token, and the subsidy is paid to your bank account. We do not quote a timeline we cannot source. A clean file helps: correct documents, DCR modules, the net meter installed and the commissioning report verified.
Does the subsidy apply to businesses too?
No. PM Surya Ghar is a residential scheme. Businesses can still use net metering, and we advise commercial customers separately.
