PSPCL net metering, step by step
Mohali runs on PSPCL, and the sequence is fixed. Knowing it is useful even if you never call us, because it tells you whether a company quoting you knows what they are doing:
- Register on the National Portal for PM Surya Ghar against your PSPCL consumer number.
- No feasibility study, up to 10 kW. PSPCL Commercial Circular 09/2024 is explicit: for a rooftop system up to 10 kWp on the AC side, no technical feasibility is carried out and a complete application is deemed approved. - Install, using DCR solar panels and a BIS-certified inverter. PM Surya Ghar needs DCR modules, and a system without them cannot claim the subsidy.
- Apply for the net meter, then PSPCL inspects and installs a bidirectional meter.
- Commissioning report is filed through PSPCL. This is the step that releases your subsidy.
- Subsidy is paid into your bank account after commissioning.

What it costs, honestly
A 3 kW grid-connected system for a Mohali home costs about ₹1.8 to 2.0 lakh installed, and that is what you pay. The subsidy is not taken off that price. Under PM Surya Ghar, the Government of India pays ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the third, up to ₹78,000, into your bank account after PSPCL inspection.
